Cross-country skiing: Calle Halfvarsson knocks the Vasaloppet: “Unfortunately for those who wanted to see me”

A jet-lagged Halfvarsson is about to embark on a training session in the snowstorm in Falun. He has hinted during the season that it would be fun to ride the classic Vasaloppet in his home country of Dalarna on March 3, but now closes that door.

– Right now things are going so well in the World Cup, so I will try to collect as many points as possible. I am eighth overall and even though the goal was the podium before the season, I will now try to reach the top 5, says Halfvarsson.

A broken pole may have meant lost podium place

Halfvarsson received good news from the races in Canada and the USA. In Sunday’s 10km freestyle in Minneapolis, he was tenth just 13.9 seconds behind sensational winner Gus Schumacher who took his first career victory in front of the loud home fans.

– If I hadn’t broken the pole, I would probably have reached the podium, says Halfvarsson.

The next competition will be in the World Cup in Lahtis, which will be decided at the same time as the Vasaloppet March 1-3.

Want to get that individual medal in Trondheim 2025

Next year the WC will be held in Trondheim and 34-year-old Halfvarsson is eager to win an individual medal in a global championship after three in relay.

– I like the track and want to run another championship in my medal hunt, thinks Halfvarsson, who also weighs in on the fact that the finances will work out.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the 10 km classic will be decided at Granåsen – the ski stadium in Trondheim.
