After the opening sprint, she left the interview in disappointment, in the mass start it was another Ebba Andersson in the track. The Swede fought his way through the field and was able to cross the finish line in seventh, seven seconds behind winner Jessie Diggins.

– If you say seventh place it doesn’t sound too cheerful, but if you think about how the race was and the conditions, I am satisfied with my own riding, Andersson tells SVT Sport.

After yesterday’s miscalculation in the sprint, Andersson’s starting position was not the best in the mass start of the second stage. Far back in the field, with number 53 on the vest, the Swede had to fight hard to get through the initially tight field.

– It is of course demanding and especially when there are so many people like me who want the same thing. You have to be 100 percent on your guard, says Andersson about the way forward in the field.

When the pace picked up, Andersson was initially able to catch up at the top. But when Jessie Diggins put in her famous sprint, there was nothing for the competition to do. The American won the race, her first WC victory in classic style, and strengthens her lead in the overall.

Second and third for the day and also overall were Kerttu Niskanen and Astrid Öyre Slind.

With today’s results, Ebba Andersson climbed to seventh place also overall. Second best Swede in the summary is Linn Svahn, who with today’s ninth place is also ninth overall.

– Physically, I seem to be in the match, then it’s just a matter of getting many other things to align a little better going forward, Andersson says.
