Cross-country skiing: Anders Blomquist after the men’s successful weekend: “Both have broken a barrier”

Hear Anders Blomquist’s thoughts on the Swedish successes in the player above.

Edvin Anger has proven to be a sprint specialist but has never made it all the way to the front. On Saturday, that streak was broken when he secured his first World Cup victory in Les Rousses.

Success begets success, they say – and quite rightly so. The next day it was time again. This time it was William Poromaa’s turn as he took home the men’s mass start over 20 km.

– Absolutely fantastic. Long awaited and fantastic. When it came to Edvin Anger, it was perhaps a little more expected. Poromaa has had a hard time and that he gets this perfect hit… So long-awaited, so important, so fun, says SVT Sports expert Anders Blomquist.

Responding to the Norwegian girl: “Plays less important”

The Norwegian Erik Valnes sent a pik to the Swedes over the weekend and said that this would never have been possible if all the stars were there from the start. The Norwegian championships took place the same weekend – which meant that stars such as Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, among others, were missing.

– It matters less, I think. You can only beat the riders who are in place if you want to win races. This will increase their chances of doing it also when the very best are there, says Blomquist.

This weekend, new competitions await in the Engadin, Switzerland. During yesterday’s session, it was clear that, among others, William Poromaa is withdrawing from the competitions.
