Criticized new bridge – arrested

Criticized new bridge arrested

Two men in Bangladesh have been arrested after criticizing a new bridge on social media.

The bridge over the river Padma was inaugurated this week after many years of construction work, which was marked by allegations of corruption and delays. The inauguration on Saturday was celebrated with a big uproar, and the bridge is described as an important project for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to row in port.

When a 42-year-old man, who previously held a low position in the opposition party BNP, wrote on Facebook that he wanted to take a picture of him peeing on the bridge, the police were therefore involved, and the man was detained according to local media.

On the same day, Monday, a man was arrested after posting a video on Tiktok that showed how loosely screwed bronze nuts were.

None of the men have yet been officially charged with crime.
