Critically acclaimed historical series Pachinko is back on streaming

Spanning a century of South Korean immigration, Pachinko is a series with two seasons now available on Apple TV+. Information on the program.

Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name written by Min Jin Lee in 2017, Pachinko is a highly aesthetic saga that chronicles the hopes and dreams of four generations of a Korean immigrant family in the United States.

Available on Apple TV+, the series has two seasons of eight episodes each starting August 23. The first takes place during the Japanese Occupation, the second offers parallel stories in two different time periods: in 1945 in Osaka, when the heroine Sunja must make perilous decisions for the survival of her family during the Second World War and in Tokyo in 1989, where Solomon makes a new start in all humility.

In this saga that spans many decades, the casting required several actors to play the same characters at different ages. Youn Yuh-jung, an actress crowned with the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the film Minari (2020), plays the role of Sunja in old age, while Kim Min-ha and Jean Yu-na play her as a teenager and child. Actor, model and singer Yoon Seo-ho started out on a variety show before moving on to comedy (My Strange Hero, Undercover, Doctor Lawyer).
