In Van, where cold weather is harsh, abnormal weather conditions not only make life difficult, but also bring serious health problems. Experts draw attention to the dangers of cold weather, especially for individuals with heart disease. Assoc. Prof. stated that pneumonia cases also increase in cold weather. Dr. Sarıkaya emphasized that this situation further increases the risk of heart attack. Stating that especially the elderly, children and individuals with heart disease should be more careful in cold weather, Sarıkaya called on citizens to be cautious. Sarıkaya pointed out the importance of dressing warmly and avoiding staying outside for long periods of time in cold weather.
“WE NEED TO BE MORE CAREFUL IN COLD WEATHER”
Assoc. Dr. Remzi Sarıkaya explained that the severity of cold weather increases with the winter months and the negative effects of this situation on health. Assoc. Dr. Sarıkaya said, “Cold weather causes many negative effects on the body. When directly exposed to cold, constriction of the heart vessels may occur. This causes blood pressure to rise and the heart to work harder. As a result, the risk of heart attack increases. That’s why we need to be much more careful in cold weather,” he said.
“IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THEY PREFER SUNDAY TIMES”
Emphasizing that pneumonia also increases the risk of heart attack, Sarıkaya said, “All diseases that cause inflammatory processes in the body can cause sudden problems on the heart. We recommend that our citizens avoid going out as much as possible in very cold weather. If they need to go out, it is important that they choose the hours when the sun is shining. “When doing sports, we recommend going out with thick and protective clothing when the temperature is suitable,” he said.
Reminding that flu infections are common during seasonal transitions, Sarıkaya pointed out that these infections can cause inflammation in the pericardium or heart wall. He recommended that people with chronic diseases or in risk groups get the flu vaccine.
Stating that scientific studies show that cold weather and infections increase the risk of heart attack, Sarıkaya said, “The Ministry of Health also makes regular warnings on this issue. “It is very important for our citizens to heed these warnings to protect their health,” he said.
