Critical terror law approved in Swedish Parliament It will come

In the voting held in the parliament, 270 deputies voted “yes”, while 37 deputies voted “against”. 42 people did not participate in the constitutional amendment, which was opposed by the Left Party and the Green Party.

It was stated in the constitutional amendment that while the freedom of association and the permission to demonstrate for groups involved in terrorism were limited, it would pave the way for the enactment of new laws.

In the amendment, it was stated that those who publish information that harms Sweden’s relationship with another state or international organization can be investigated by the Swedish Intelligence Agency on suspicion of 4 years in prison.

In a statement to the Swedish media, experts commented that the new constitutional amendment paved the way for easier criminal proceedings against members of the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.

The constitutional amendment will enter into force on 1 January 2023. (AA)
