Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh made evaluations after the meeting between North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Regarding the possibility that North Korea will provide weapons to Russia, Singh said, “Anyone who supports Russia in this unprovoked war “We think that the country will not only prolong the conflict in Ukraine, but also that this is tantamount to killing innocent Ukrainian civilians.” he commented. Reminding that they had warned North Korea on this issue many times before, Singh said, “We warn North Korea not to enter into an arms agreement with Russia.” she said. When Russian Defense Minister Seygey Shoigu was asked about the possibility of joint exercises with North Korea, Singh said that this would not affect US-Japan-South Korea relations.
SOUTH KOREA IS CLOSELY FOLLOWING THE NORTH KOREA-RUSSIA MILITARY EXERCISE
The South Korean Ministry of Defense reported that a possible military exercise that could take place between the two countries was being closely followed after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Yonhap, Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Jeon Ha-kyou made a statement to the press following the increasing concerns about the possibilities of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow following the meeting of the leaders of the two countries at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Amur region.
Regarding military cooperation concerns, Jeon said, “There were such predictions, and we will continue to follow this closely, taking into account the possibility.” said.
Warning against possible arms deals between North Korea and Russia, Jeon emphasized that such a situation would violate the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
Regarding the issue, Jeon said, “There may be parts that violate UNSC resolutions and Russia already knows this. I hope (Russia) complies with them and I guess we will have to wait and see.” made his assessment.
