Critical situation for beluga whales in the Seine

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

The beluga whale that was discovered in the river Seine a while ago continues to fight for its survival, and it is described as a fight against the clock to save the several-meter-long mammal.

The malnourished whale was seen for the first time on Tuesday last week – and they have not yet managed to get it to eat anything. Environmental activist Lamya Essemlali believes that the whales have not been in the river very long.

– This means that it stopped eating even before it ended up in the Seine, she says.

The beluga remains in a lock seven miles from Paris. Even if the hope that it will survive is minimal, euthanizing the animal is not an option.

In the player above: Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet, Regional Director of Eure, tells us more about what options remain to try to save the whales.
