The French presidential election has reached the second round. According to the polls, the second round to be held on April 24 will be held between the current President Emmanuel Macron, who received 28.6 percent of the votes among the 12 candidates, and Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right National Unity Party (RN), who received 23.9 percent of the votes.
Jean Luc Melenchon, leader of the France Unyielding Movement (LFI), received 20.1 percent of the votes, and Eric Zemmour, leader of the Reconquete Party, which is on the agenda with far-right and hate speech, received 7.2 percent of the votes.
Valerie Pecresse, the candidate of the centre-right Republican Party (LR), which received 5.10 percent of the votes, and the head of the Ile-de-France region, which includes the capital Paris, called for voting for Macron in the second round and said: “I will vote for Emmanuel Macron with my conscience to prevent the chaos this will cause,” he said.
Paris Mayor Anne Hildago, the candidate of the centre-left Socialist Party (PS), which received 1.9 percent of the vote, also urged voters to vote for Macron against Le Pen’s extreme right in the second round.
ELECTION PARTICIPATION 65 PERCENT
In the country where there are approximately 48.7 million registered voters, the voter turnout rate was 65 percent as of 17.00 local time. The turnout in the last elections was recorded as 69.42 percent.

The official results of the first round will be announced by the Constitutional Court on 13 April, and the candidate who won the election in the second round will take office on 13 May.
