Cristiano Ronaldo and Taylor Swift – that’s what we’ve been searching for for 25 years

The search engine Google has become such a big part of many people’s lives that the verb “google” has simply become synonymous with searching for information on the Internet.

This year the search giant turns 25, and it is celebrated with, among other things, a compilation of what the world has searched for the most since its launch in 1997.

Ronaldo and Swift

In a video released by Google, the searches are divided into different categories. It shows, among other things, that the world’s most searched sportsman seen over the last 25 years is Cristiano Ronaldo, the most searched toy is Barbie, and that the most searched singer songwriter is Taylor Swift.

Other searches that have been popular include the South Korean boy band BTS, the “Bucket challange” and Harry Potter.

Swedish searches 2023

Google is not infrequently used to get answers to things with the help of phrases, which here in Sweden often begin with the word “vad”. This year, the most common sentence in the context was “what is Hamas”, followed by “what is lyric”, “what is happening in Israel”, “what is the Wagner Group” and “What does slay mean”.

– If you don’t know what slay means, you don’t need to be ashamed, people have been looking for it all year, says tech expert Evelina Galli in Efter fem.

If you look at searches that start with “how”, it becomes clear that Swedes want to know how to get electricity support, how deep the Titanic lies and how often others think of the Roman Empire, among other things.
