Credem Observatory a meeting on the risks of the infodemic

(Finance) – “Information health, between redundancy and fragmentation” is the title of the meeting dedicated to the theme of information overabundance in an increasingly complex and globalized society, organized byOpinion Leader 4 Future Observatorythe project on conscious information born from the collaboration between Credem Group And ALMED (High School in Media, Communication and Entertainment of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart). The event, included in the program of Milan Digital Week of 5-9 October 2023, will be held on Thursday 5 October from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm at the headquarters of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan in Largo Gemelli 1.

At the center of the meeting was the understanding of challenges and risks associated with the infodemic in an era characterized by an excessive overabundance of information (information overload) online, but also offline. Unlimited access to knowledge can, paradoxically, constitute an obstacle to correct information, not allowing people to make informed choices on the important issues of life. The event will offer the opportunity to analyze the profound implications of the phenomenon, in particular for the new generations, and to delve deeper into the topic of research into sources and the correct selection of information, to move from the simple flow of information to effective assimilation. of the same.

Between themes of the event the influence of fragmentation and the loss of information plurality in contemporary society; best practices for informed information for Generation Z (people born approximately between 1995 and 2010), with a focus on the phenomenon of eco-anxiety; the role of journalism in content curation.

They will speak during the meeting Chiara Giaccardi, full professor of Sociology of cultural and communicative processes at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Lavinia Colantoni, PhD student in humanistic studies at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart e Marco Dotti, journalist and professor of publishing professions at the University of Pavia. The moderator of the event will be Sara Sampietro, coordinator of the Opinion Leader 4 Future Observatory.

“The amount of information we can easily use constitutes one of the greatest threats to our ability to make important, informed decisions in a reasonable time – he declared Luigi Ianesi, head of corporate governance and external relations at Credem –. In recent years, everything has been further accelerated and integrated by continuous digital innovations which have transformed and partly influenced the mechanisms and processes to which we were accustomed only a few years ago, but also the role of each of us in this area. This initiative highlights how urgent it is to develop a critical sense but above all a culture of approach and use of information so that it remains a personal and collective heritage from which everyone can draw for their well-being”.

“We live in a highly entropic era, not only from an environmental point of view, but also from an information point of view. The multiplication of sources generates redundancy, but – he declared Giaccardi – does not contribute to real pluralism. Increasing fragmentation generates confusion and disorientation, which negatively affects the ability to understand and therefore act, not only individually, but also collectively. This is why it is important and urgent to take care of communication.”
