The historical series The Crown tells the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II on Netflix. The story of the royals will soon begin its 6th season. The first 5 seasons cost $504 million and are extremely popular. Nevertheless, Season 6 marks the end of the series, for which series creator Peter Morgan has a precise explanation.
Despite Netflix’s success: Why does The Crown end after season 6?
After four different Elizabeth actresses since the series started in 2016, Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) has the honor of portraying the queen one last time in season 6 of The Crown. The final season follows directly on from the events of season 5 and is intended to… Period from 1997 to 2005 cover.
The events covered include: Princess Diana’s fatal accident (Elizabeth Debicki) on August 31, 1997 and its consequences. The series ending could be Prince Charles’ (Dominic West) Wedding with Camilla (Olivia Williams) on April 9, 2005. In addition, the love story of William and Kate

Anyone who believed that The Crown would also include the more current royal family crisis of Harry & Meghan over the course of its seasons must give up that hope. Series creator Peter Morgan gave Variety a good reason for this:
We have [The Crown] ended at this point, because we wanted to keep it historical, not journalistic. I think stopping 20 years from the present is dignified.
Since it is not yet possible to judge from the present how history will look back on current events, the team at The Crown decided against the initial idea to have the series about Elizabeth II end with the death of the Queen (which occurred on September 8, 2022, after a 70-year reign at the age of 96). Nevertheless, the series will not leave the monarch’s passing completely unaddressed: According to Morgan, the last episode will take place in 2005 “Finding a way to deal with the death of their character, even if the Queen hasn’t died yet”.
