The question can of course be formulated the other way round. What could be better than a sci-fi film? Of course one that also has plenty of Western flair. Iron Man mastermind Jon Favreau probably made Cowboys & Aliens with his stars based on exactly this motto. You can see how well that works on TV tonight.
Today on TV: What is the sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens about?
This may surprise some people, but the name says it all. A more or less sleepy western village is turned upside down when aliens appear one day and attack out of the blue. Before that, however, there is a mysterious stranger in the citywho can’t remember anything but is surprisingly good with a gun.
Within a very short time, it turns out that the gunslinger is a serious criminal who is wanted. This does not, however, explain the mysterious device on his arm. The local sheriff Colonel Woodrow (Harrison Ford) and the stranger (Daniel Craig) have no choice but to against a much more pressing threat from another world.

Even though Cowboys & Aliens was a commercial flop at the box office, it’s still worth a look. Firstly, it’s not every day that a blockbuster director like the man behind Iron Man takes such a risk and creates such a mix of genres. The wild mix alone is fun.
Secondly, there is also the cast that elevates Aliens & Cowboys above the rest. You can see here not only Olivia Wilde, Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in the main roles, but also the supporting roles are top-class with Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, Sam Rockwell and Walton Goggins.
If you like westerns, you should not just turn on the TVbut also go to the cinema. The new Kevin Costner film Horizon is currently showing there. It seems to have fallen short of expectations commercially, but that doesn’t bother the man behind it. The director and leading actor Kevin Costner defends his film against the criticism and explains that he is “used to being despised“.

You can watch the film today, Friday, August 30th at 20:15 on RTL 2 It lasts there with advertising until 10:35 p.m. and the repeat is broadcast early on Saturday morning at 2:30 a.m.
Currently, the sci-fi and western spectacle cannot be streamed online independently of the TV schedule. It looks as though Aliens & Cowboys is currently not included in any streaming flat rate and not even available on the common on-demand platforms.
