The mobile game Clash of Clans celebrates its birthday. To mark the occasion, it released a documentary that accurately summarizes 40 years of Clash history. The game just turns 10.
This is Clash of Clans: Clash of Clans is a mobile game for iOS and Android in which you build your own village and attack other players’ villages. Today it is one of the best-known and most successful mobile phone games (via Sensortower).
However, there are Pay2Win mechanics in the game that bring real money benefits. Otherwise, there can be really strange situations in Clash of Clans when mechanics are overturned.
The game was originally released on August 2nd, 2012, so it’s celebrating its tenth anniversary. To mark the occasion, a totally genuine and definitely reliable documentary has been released that unravels the entire story of the game (editor’s note: this is ironic).
It quickly becomes clear: Yes, “Clash of Clans” is only ten years old. But the true, enigmatic and absolutely non-fictional story of the game began back in the summer of 1982.
We embed the “documentary” for you here:
What does the definitively correct documentary about Clash of Clans show?
This is in the video: If you don’t feel like watching the video, we’ll summarize it here for you. But 40 years of game history is really a lot.
In the documentary, a reliable-looking, older gentleman with a bushy beard named Leo Mallia tells the story that he has been actively accompanying the game as a “clash documentary” for 40 years. So he knows what he’s talking about when he says: “Everyone thinks they know the story. But they don’t even know half of it.”
Then we’re taken through the story of the game, starting in the summer of ’82 with three teenagers developing the arcade game Clash together. And because it’s the 80s, there are of course slot machines, tube TVs and old joysticks everywhere.
The game is an obvious Mario knockoff, but at least as successful. Other totally reliable sources have their say, covering arcade “clash mania,” epic news stories about the barbarian, and even his own cereal box. We all remember.
So how did Clash of Clans come about? As befits a great story, there is a rupture. Fame goes to someone’s head, someone else bogs down in their own parents’ basement.
There are follow-up projects. “Clash-Dash”, a popular racing game. A perfume called “Bühm”. And, of course: A Clash film.
But in the end everything goes down the drain, because the next approach doesn’t sit well: “Cradle of Darkness” – a bloody, dark Clash variant. Unfortunately, this was the worst video game of all time.
After that comes a little bit of drama until 2012 when the big rebirth of Clash takes place – with Clash of Clans.
How much truth is there in that? Well, in any case, Clash of Clans was released in 2012. The rest of the documentary feels like a belated April Fool’s joke – but you can’t choose when your birthday is. But obviously how old you get.
What do you think of the birthday gag? Can you relate to this? Or is Clash of Clans generally not for you? Tell us in the comments.
