This Wednesday, May 31, Miles Morales is back in a new animated film with a crazy ambition to see and see again in the cinema. Our review of “Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse”.
[Mis à jour le 31 mai 2023 à 10h07] The character of Spider-Man makes the heyday of the big screen, so much so that we no longer count the more or less successful attempts to adapt the adventures of the spider-man to the cinema. In 2018, Spider-Man: Next Generation (available on Disney++) revolutionized both animated film and the mythology of this well-known and often adored character.
So we didn’t think it was possible to do better than this. Animation Film surprised but critically acclaimed. And yet. Miles Morales and Other Versions of Spider-Man Return Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, released in theaters this Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Here, the multiverse expands, expands, and becomes more complex, as Miles Morales finds himself directly torn between his duty as a superhero and his personal life, in the service of a film with a crazy formal and narrative ambition. Our review below.
new generation was already a real jewel of animated cinema, reminding those who had mistakenly forgotten that even animated films could surprise and revolutionize the seventh art. It seemed impossible, but Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse has managed to go even further, to explore graphic boundaries and push back aesthetic and sound limits, to totally explode the myth of the spider-man to offer a real reflection on the figure of the superhero while assuming his formal ambitions and narratives.
Richer, denser, more graphic, Across the Spiderverse is a real nugget that rises with panache to the challenge of being even better than the first film. We can blame the film for its lengths in the first part, and especially that the story is not finished (a sequel is expected for 2024). But these are very minor flaws compared to the enormous qualities of the animated film. And even if the film lasts 2h20, we can’t wait to go back to discover new details imperceptible on first viewing. Of course, Spider-Man fans should head to theaters. The others too, because a show of such magnitude, it would be wrong to deprive yourself of it.
