Seat belts can be the difference between life and death even in slow-moving A-tractors and mopeds. This is shown by crash tests recently carried out by the Norwegian Road and Transport Research Institute, VTI.

The crash tests took place at 30 and 40 kilometers per hour with belted drivers and unbelted passengers. At all speeds, and with both types of vehicle, the driver hit his head on the steering wheel while the unbelted passenger hit his head on the windshield so hard that it cracked, writes VTI in a press release.

There is currently no law on belts in A-tractors. In mopeds, a seat belt or helmet is required. Surveys with young drivers show, according to VTI, that around 80 percent of mopeds always wear seat belts, but only 40 percent of drivers in A-tractors.

In recent years, the number of A-tractors on Swedish roads has increased explosively. According to VTI, accidents have increased even more. In 2022, four young people died in A tractors and hundreds were injured.
