Crash leads to impaired driving charge

Thefts under investigation by Chatham Kent police

Early Sunday, Chatham-Kent police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Indian Creek Road in Chatham.

The vehicle struck a hydro pole, rolled and came to rest on its roof, police said. Police suspected the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was taken to headquarters for breath tests.

The 30-year-old Chatham man allegedly exceeded the legal blood-alcohol limit. He was charged and later released from custody with a court date.

Officers observed a disturbance at a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Saturday afternoon.

While no criminal offense was occurring, police were familiar with the 51-year-old Chatham man and he was arrested on a warrant.

Upon being searched, he was allegedly found to be in possession of stolen property and suspected methamphetamine. He was taken to headquarters and later released with a short date.
