Covid: Quarantine periods shortened in the USA

In the United States (USA), the recommended quarantine period has been reduced from 10 days to five days for those who have positive coronavirus tests and come into contact with those who have had the disease, although they do not show any symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that masks should be worn for the next 5 days after the quarantine period.

These recommendations are not mandatory. However, many businesses and authorities follow these recommendations.

Rising cases of Covid 19 caused chaos in travel across the country last weekend.

The CDC stated that the change in the quarantine period was taken in the light of scientific developments and stated that the contagiousness in the cases usually occurs in the early phase of the disease.

The quarantine period has also been changed for those who have been in contact with people infected with Covid 19.

The recommended 10-day quarantine period has also been reduced to 5 days in case of contact of people who have not received a reminder dose or have not been vaccinated before.

People in this scenario were advised by the CDC to wear masks in all environments for 5 days after quarantine.

Stating that there is no need to quarantine contacts who have received a reminder dose, CDC stated that these people, on the other hand, should wear a mask for 10 days.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a press release that the changes “enable people to go about their daily lives with confidence.”

“Our best option to prevent transmission of the virus is: Get vaccinated, get your reminder dose, wear a mask indoors, and test before you enter an environment,” Walensky said.

Omicron is the dominant variant in the US. In the last two days, more than 200,000 cases of coronavirus have been recorded daily across the country.

President Joe Biden has warned of possible pressure on the healthcare system.

Speaking at his meeting with state governors, “Seeing how difficult it is to get tested shows that we have more work to do,” Biden made a commitment to eliminate the problems experienced in coronavirus tests.

The CDC’s recommendations for people who test positive for or have been in contact with for Covid-19 are as follows:

If the Covid-19 test is positive:

  • Regardless of vaccination status, everyone should stay at home for 5 days.
  • If there are no symptoms or if the symptoms are gone after 5 days, quarantine can be ended after 5 days.
  • However, a mask should be worn for the next 5 days.
  • If there is a fever, he should stay at home until this situation is over.

If you are in contact with people who test positive for Covid-19:

As of yesterday, children over the age of 12 who have not been vaccinated in New York will not be able to enter indoor spaces. New York also became the first city in the USA to impose a vaccination requirement for all private sector workers.
