COVID outbreak at hospital nursing home

10 in total test positive for coronavirus

Protective measures are in place now that a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home in Simcoe.

The outbreak was declared Friday after six residents and four staff members tested positive for the coronavirus. Standard procedures at the nursing home are suspended till further notice.

“During this time, there will be no resident admissions or transfers to and from the NHNH,” Aaron Gautreau, spokesperson for Norfolk General Hospital and its attached nursing home, said in a news release. “These temporary measures are in place to ensure the health and safety of our residents and staff and the community.”

Gautreau says the nursing home’s essential-care provider program is suspended till the outbreak passes.

“We understand it is difficult for families and friends to be separated from their loved ones during this period,” Gautreau said. “We encourage people to use technology to connect with our residents.

“We want to re-assure the public that NHNH is working around the clock to control and contain this outbreak and using our expertise and resources as efficiently as possible.

“Our staff are also working diligently to provide care and comfort to our residents during this outbreak.”
