Malaysia reopens its borders after two years

Malaysia reopened its borders on Friday after two years of closure due to the covid-19 pandemic, joining other countries in Southeast Asia that have taken similar steps in a attempt to adapt to the “endemic phase” of the virus.

One of the scenes that best represents the reopening are the long queues of cars and people on foot crossing the bridge that separates the Malaysian city of Johor with the city-state of Singaporetransited daily before the pandemic by some 300,000 people and which was sealed on March 17, 2020.

“I feel like we’re back to normal, to how it was two years ago”Vijay Manogaran said with joy as he crossed the crossing early on Friday, along with thousands of people, according to The Straits Times newspaper.
