Covid eruption in China – shuts down city with 320,000 inhabitants

None of the steel city’s 320,000 residents are allowed to go outside until the middle of the day on Thursday, according to the announcement from the authorities on Monday. Necessary goods must be delivered by local authorities.

The extensive shutdown is another sign that the country does not plan to abandon its zero covid strategy.

The strategy is based on previous experiences from pandemics, says China expert Kristina Sandklef.
