The number of covid cases has increased sharply in China since the government eased the country’s strict covid restrictions last week.
In Beijing, 22,000 patients have sought care in recent days, which is 16 times as many as a week ago, according to the authorities.
Many elderly people are also not fully vaccinated, and hospitals are now equipping themselves with more intensive care beds and more staff to handle the increasing pressure.
