The mask It has become one of the most outstanding sanitary materials of the last two years and an essential ‘companion’ that has allowed us to fight against COVID throughout the pandemic. Now, and after the Government approved this measure last week, everything seems to indicate that the time of the mask in Spain burns another stage to stop being mandatory in most interior spaces.
When will wearing a mask indoors cease to be compulsory?
Carolina Darias, Minister of Health, explained last Wednesday to journalists gathered at the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System that the mask will no longer be mandatory indoors from April 20. A measure that marks a before and after in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic that has been tormenting Spanish society and the entire world for more than two years.
It should be noted that it will be tomorrow, April 19th, when the Council of Ministers approves the rule that regulates the mandatory nature of the mask in closed spaces. They will do it through new royal decree law in which the cases in which the mask will continue to be mandatory will also be exposed. However, the measure does not take effect until Wednesday, April 20. That is, once it has been published in the BOE first thing in the morning.
In which cases will the mask continue to be mandatory?
Minister Darias announced at a press conference that the mask will continue to be mandatory in certain places where the risk continues to be high. As well as in some public infrastructures for community use. “This measure will not come into force at the moment in spaces where there may be people with vulnerability: health centers, hospitals, residences and transport”, declared the Minister of Health.
In the same way, in private companies it will be the occupational risk departments that will make the decision to continue maintaining this precautionary measure for as long as they consider necessary. The same will happen in bars and restaurants, places where the management of the establishment is the one that will assume if it is necessary for clients and workers to continue with the mask. In colleges and institutes the rule will be governed by the decision of the people most vulnerable to COVID. However, in transport of all kinds (plane, train, ship…) yes, it will be forbidden to remove the mask.
The gradual decline in the curve of infections and deaths from coronavirus has caused this measure to be ahead of what was planned. The mask as we know it has numbered hours and next April 20 will be the day on which the new exceptions come into force. It should be noted that it is not mandatory not to wear a face mask either, since anyone can justify its use through individual health responsibility.
