COVID-19 outbreak on 4B unit at NGH

Visitor restrictions lifted at NGH

An outbreak has been declared on the 4B Unit at Norfolk General Hospital after four patients tested positive for COVID-19.

Visitors, other than essential care providers (ECPs), are not permitted on the unit at this time as a result of the outbreak. The 4B unit is for patients in need of complex continuing care.

NGH has implemented comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) precautions, such as enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing, to protect the health of patients and staff,” the hospital posted on social media on Friday.

Patients testing positive are being isolated in their rooms and other patients are being monitored for symptoms.

Patients, in consultation with their health-care providers, are allowed two designated ECPs, but only one will be allowed at a time.

“These temporary measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, physicians, and the community,” said the release. “Please be respectful to our frontline teams when discussing visitor restrictions.”
