During the outbreak, the medicine unit at the hospital was closed and patients were only allowed to have one family caregiver or visitor per day with no in-and-out privileges.

With the outbreak over, family and caregiver presence on the unit has been restored. Full guidelines can be found online at hpha.ca/visiting.

However, masks must still be worn by patients, caregivers and staff in any clinical area of Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) hospitals. While masks are not required in non-clinical areas, they are still recommended. Medical-grade masks are available at entrances and masking stations throughout the hospital. If you’re feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms, HPHA officials strongly recommend postponing your visit until you’ve recovered.

While HPHA officials did not disclose how many cases had been confirmed, their Oct 16 release stated that an “outbreak status refers to two or more confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among patients that could have possibly been acquired in the hospital.”

“As respiratory illness season sets in, the need for protection continues even with the outbreak behind us,” said Erica Jensen, manager of quality, patient safety and infection control.

“Keep up to date with vaccinations, practice good hand hygiene, and stay home if you’re feeling unwell,” Jensen added.
