Coronavirus infection induces an acquired immune response. But for how long is it effective against variants?

This Christmas 2021 will be the second time spent pandemic and even if we are used to barrier gestures and other measures to curb the spread of virus, the end of year celebrations are conducive to relaxation. However, it is during reunions with family and friends that the coronavirus circulates most easily. The fifth wave epidemic, largely due to the spread of the Delta variant, has not yet reached its peak. With the arrival of Omicron variant, very contagious, another epidemic wave is envisaged by some scientists, and this from the beginning of the year 2022.

Faced with these two variants, the response is the same: generalize telecommuting, the establishment of the health pass, the expansion of vaccination, screening, screening and sequencing variants in circulation, etc. In addition to these general measures, the Scientific Council recalls the measures applicable at the individual level.

Actions to limit the spread of the coronavirus at Christmas

To protect yourself and your guests, it is recommended to wear the mask in closed and busy places. At private gatherings, where wearing a mask is hardly tenable, room ventilation about ten minutes per hour and reducing the number of guests makes it possible to limit the risk of creating a contamination. Testing yourself before the event using the various tests available in pharmacies can also be a solution for meeting in peace. Handwashing and surface disinfection are still relevant today.

There is no miracle recipe for guaranteed protection from the coronavirus. But combined, all of these measures can reduce the risk of infecting loved ones or being infected during Christmas dinner or New Year’s Eve.
