Covid-19 hit in the Norwegian national team: Total World Cup winner Tiril Udnes Weng and three others sick

“Beito is hanging on by a thin thread but Ruka is still possible”, writes Udnes Weng to Norwegian VG.

The diligent competitor Udnes Weng won the overall cup despite only one win during the season but was awarded for diligent competition where there were not so many points between the podium and the top ten after a change in the points count.

The 27-year-old fell ill with covid at a high-altitude camp in Italian Livigno last week and has not yet recovered. She hopes that the canceled training will pay off despite the involuntary rest.

Not one hundred percent satisfied

“The form could have been better, but I have had to train without being 100 percent satisfied,” Udnes Weng tells VG.

At the same time as the star skaters’ positive covid cases, the sprint national team’s coach Arild Monsen and the national team manager Per Elias Kalfoss have left the gathering in Finnish Muonio after riding covid.

The Norwegian season premiere takes place in Beitostölen November 17-19, while the World Cup premiere takes place in Ruka the following weekend, November 24-26.
