From May 16, wearing a mask is no longer compulsory in public transport: metro, bus, train, plane, taxi… But the coronavirus epidemic is still there. With nearly 23,000 new cases per day on average, it is necessary to remember what health restrictions are still in force in France.
Wearing a mask
Although wearing a mask is no longer compulsory in establishments open to the public, it remains so in health and care establishments: hospitals, clinics, pharmacies or even medical biology laboratories. It concerns patients, caregivers and visitors.
Health pass and vaccination
- The health pass remains compulsory in hospitals, retirement homes but also in establishments welcoming adults with disabilities. If you do not have a health pass, rest assured, you still have a right of access to care.
- Regarding vaccination, the fourth dose is open to immunocompromised people and people over 80 who have received their booster dose for more than three months. It will soon be open to people aged 60 and over, whose last injection dates back more than six months.
- The deadline for the booster dose (third dose) is three months after the last injection or infection with Covid-19. This recall is open to anyone 12 years of age and older.
- Vaccination is also open to children aged 5 to 11, subject to the agreement of one of the holders of parental authority.
- Some healthcare professionals must respond to the vaccination obligation. From the moment you are in contact with people at risk, you must have a complete vaccination schedule (three doses of vaccine or two doses and Covid infection). This is the case for all professionals who work in the health sector, medico-social, or for firefighters.
Tests and isolation
- Isolation remains mandatory for people who test positive for Covid-19. It can be broken after 5 days if the PCR or antigen test carried out by the infected person is negative and if they have not shown symptoms for 48 hours.
- If you are in contact, you must carry out a test, two days after having been in contact with the contaminated person.

Displacements
If you decide to go on a trip, be aware that health restrictions are not the same everywhere. Some countries still impose the obligation to wear a mask in public transport and other public places. Others ask for a negative PCR test on arrival. Just find out about the measurements of the country in question. Inside the European Union, you no longer need the mask on the plane from Monday May 16, according to a press release from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Please note that these restrictions are nevertheless temporary, since other measures could be taken in the coming months. Everything will depend on the progress of the epidemic in France.
