South Korea’s Constitutional Court has rejected the national court against Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo, who replaced Yoon Suk-Yeol on the presidential post following his criticized decision to introduce a state of emergency in December last year.
Thus, he becomes acting president again.
According to an assessor, the decision should not be seen as a signal of what the ruling may be for Yoon’s part, since he is not considered to have played any leading role in the introduction of the state of emergency.
Yoon Suk-Yeol is charged with led a suspected attempt at a coup d’état in South Korea, after announcing war laws in the country on December 3 and sent the military to Parliament.
He denies the charges and has insisted that he, as head of state, has the power to introduce war laws.
Yoon was arrested in a large police operation on January 15, when he refused for two weeks to appear with the authorities and instead barricaded himself in his residence.
In the criminal proceedings, a conviction can lead to the most life imprisonment or death penalty.
