Diablo 4 is currently giving away boosts to returnees. They’re actually supposed to ensure that you can see the new content more quickly. But one couple actually wanted the whole Diablo experience and discovered that you can easily accidentally make yourself stronger than planned.
This is what happens when you press the button:
Vessel of Hatred has its very own altars:
This is what happened to the couple: A user on Reddit explains that he stopped playing in July 2024 and wanted to take a look at Diablo 4 again with his girlfriend. The characters were still at level 23.
However, a visit to the inn and just a quick click on one of the three options ensured that the characters are now standing there fully equipped at level 50. Annoying for the couple, because they actually wanted to play the story together. The user writes:
I know it’s not a big deal, but it wasn’t entirely clear what the outcome would be. We’re starting now with new characters. Otherwise we think the game is significantly better than Diablo 3.
Other players say that luckily level 23 was achieved quickly again. Nevertheless, the one accidental click is quite annoying and the two are not the first players to boost each other unplanned.
“Very easy to miss”
In over 160 comments, Reddit users discuss the free boost. There is a pop-up when you log in for the first time after a long time, but otherwise there aren’t really any instructions for the boost.
The game somehow always pushes you there. Because: the boost is listed as a priority quest and therefore constantly sneaks into the active quest log. If you simply follow the markers, you will inevitably end up at the reliquary where the boosts are available.
That’s not really a big problem in itself, but if you want to explore the world yourself, the boost could cause a lot of damage. Although you can simply start a new character, at least all altars remain uncovered. The exploration falls flat. In addition, there are only one or two boosts per account – if you make a mistake, it will quickly be wasted.
At least Diablo 4 still offers a lot to grind and discover in the endgame. Even frequent players are only now noticing some of the content, even though they have already put a huge amount of time into the game: Players discover an item in Diablo 4 that hardly anyone uses – “I’ve never heard of it in 1,500 hours”
