Couple arrested in Västmanland – suspected of torturing two children

A father and a woman are arrested on suspicion of serious assault and unlawful detention of two small children in Västmanland.
The children must have been neglected and tortured, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.
– The social service is involved, says prosecutor Anna Mascaro.

The suspicions came to light when the two young children, who are of preschool age, were taken to hospital on Tuesday evening.

The children showed signs of being exposed to violence and neglect. Among other things, there were various injuries on the body, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.

The police were contacted and arrested the children’s father and his female partner, who live with the two children in Västmanland county. The man and woman are now in custody.

– Two people are suspected of crimes against two small children, it concerns serious assault and unlawful deprivation of liberty, says Anna Mascaro, the prosecutor leading the case.

Technical survey in the home

Information that has emerged so far in the investigation claims that the children were tortured in various ways, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna. The prosecutor does not want to confirm the information or state how long the crimes are believed to have been going on.

– I cannot say much about the case, says Anna Mascaro.

The police, together with social services, have been working intensively since Tuesday. Technicians have also carried out an investigation in the family’s home.

TV4 Nyheterna has sought the defenders of the detainees and reached one of them.

– The only thing I can say is that my client denies any crime. The preliminary investigation is in an early stage and there is preliminary investigation secrecy, so otherwise I cannot comment on my principal’s attitude or other circumstances, says lawyer Björn Molander, who reportedly represents the father.

The Västmanlands police do not want to comment on the case, but refer to the prosecutor.
