Bolivian President Luis Arce condemned the Bolivian army’s siege of the government palace and called for respect for democracy. Making a statement on his X social media account, Arce said, “We condemn the irregular mobilization of some military units by some units of the Bolivian army. Democracy must be respected.” he said.

Local media reported that tanks and hooded soldiers evacuated civilians from the capital’s Plaza Murillo Square and cordoned off the area.
News reports claimed that senior commanders of the Bolivian army were threatening to seize the executive branch. In the news reflected on social media, it was stated that military units were stationed around the General Staff Headquarters.
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales announced on his social media account that the armed forces were trying to stage a “coup”.
Morales said, “The coup is coming. The commanders in the General Staff have called for an emergency meeting at 15:00. We call for a national mobilization of all our people in urban and rural areas to defend democracy. We declare an indefinite general strike. We will not allow the armed forces to violate democracy and intimidate the people.”
