What about the fraudsters? The company Silent Push has found a possible threat to players from Counter-Strike 2 with a team of experts in cyber security.

The company has discovered a so-called “phishing campaign”, in which fraudsters try to steal the Steam data of players. For this purpose, a pop-up window in the browser of the affected users would open up, the Steam Imitated and disguised as Valves Gaming platform your Steam accounting data.

The experts discovered the pop-up window, for example, on one side that claims to have a free box opened and then presented you with a supposedly obtained skin. To collect this skin, you should then register with the wrong Steam window, according to the experts.

This is how the whole thing looks:

The pop-up window and the website on which the window including the supposedly free box was integrated use the E-Sport team Navi to attract the attention of CS2 players.

  • According to Silent Push, the actors behind CS2-Phishing have not bought the trouble to create convincing phishing sites optimized for mobile devices. If you are unsure about one side/ window, opening the window could provide a hint on your smartphone.
  • According to Silent Push, legitimate windows, including pop-ups, can be maximized, minimized and moved outside the browser window. However, fake pop-ups cannot be maximized, minimized or moved from the browser window.
  • According to Silent Push, the simplest way to identify a fake pop-up window is to pull the window out of the browser window.
  • At MeinMMO, however, we are not experts in cyber security and can therefore only advise you to deal responsibly with your data. If you are not sure with a pop-up window, let it stay.
