In 2022, Sungur was wrongly accused of intimidating a colleague. Achraf Aït Daoua, councilor of D66, accused Sungur that he would put him under pressure prior to a vote to support the motion. If he voted against, he would ‘exhibit’ him on social media.
40 of the 45 councilors then sent a letter to Mayor Dijksma to express their concerns about the situation. They also accused Sungur of intimidation. That letter then leaked into the media, on which Dijksma had an investigation conducted. The researchers stated that Sungur has not expressed a threat to the D66 councilor.
The consequences of leaking the letter were great for Sungur. That way he would have physical and mental complaints. The councilors apologized, but that did not make the stocking for Sungur off. He went to court. The interrogation of the council members must determine whether a lawsuit has a chance. The DENK party chairman wants to personally hold the politicians liable for the consequences that the false accusations have had on him.
The council members who are going to be interrogated are Rick van der Zweth (PvdA), Mohamed Talhaoui (PvdA), Achraf Aït Daoua (D66), Maarten Koning (D66), Marijn de Pagter (VVD), Mariam al-Saqaff (VVD) and former council member).
