The European Union’s (EU) highest court, the European Court of Justice, ruled that cosmetic products similar to food can be banned on the grounds that they may be dangerous, especially for children.
The court, headquartered in Luxembourg, has announced its decision in a lawsuit filed by the Lithuanian authorities regarding products known as “bath balls or bath bombs” that give off scent and color when thrown into bathtubs filled with water.
In the decision, it was stated that cosmetic products such as “bath ball” could be banned in EU countries, as there is a risk of children mixing it with foods such as fruit, candy and chocolate.
Noting that the prohibition decision should be made by evaluating each product separately, the court stated that just resembling food may not be enough for a product to be banned.
It was noted that in the lawsuit filed by Lithuania about the products of a UK-based company, the final decision on the prohibition of the products will be given by the Lithuanian courts. (AA)
