Corsica: nationalist youth have “a very romantic vision of Yvan Colonna”

Banner in a demonstration in tribute to the Corsican nationalist Yvan Colonna, on March 6, in Corte. The slogan Statu Francesu Assassinu can be read.

The day after the death of Yvan Colonna, condemned for the assassination of the prefect Érignac, Emmanuel Macron called for calm in order to avoid a new outbreak of anger on the island. The independence activist is described as a “martyr of the Corsican cause” by an island youth mobilized since his attack. Colonna’s aggression served as a catalyst for Corsican nationalist demands which have taken root there for years and which are gaining momentum especially among young people.
