PROVINCE OF UTRECHT – The number of corona patients in Dutch hospitals fell by 27 on Tuesday to 1990. Yesterday there was an increase of 157 patients to 2017, the highest number in almost three months. There are also fewer people with a positive test result, that percentage fell by almost 30 percent in a week.

According to the most recent figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS), there are currently 1,832 corona patients in the nursing wards, 37 fewer than yesterday. There are now 158 Covid patients in intensive care units. That is ten more than a day earlier.

In the past 24 hours, 274 new corona patients were admitted to the nursing wards, 77 more than the previous 24 hours. In addition, thirty patients with corona were brought into the ICUs compared to seventeen a day earlier. But because people also disappeared from the wards, there is still a decrease in the total number of patients.

Other patients with corona

Some of the admitted patients who tested positive for the coronavirus were admitted in the first place for another cause. This could be people with heart problems or stomach complaints, for example. After doing a corona test, it happens to be positive. The LCPS makes no distinction in the daily hospital figures between patients admitted with or because of corona.

Situation in Utrecht

Today, 795 positive corona tests have been established in the municipality of Utrecht. In Amersfoort there are 442, in IJsselstein 101 and in Woudenberg 65. In the entire province of Utrecht, 3544 corona cases were detected today.

In the past week, 25325 infections have been detected throughout the province. In comparison, there were in the seven days there before 31763.

Decrease in positive corona tests

The number of positive test results is also declining nationally, and the decline is rapid. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported last week that it had registered 429,252 positive results from corona tests in the seven days before. In the following six days, 272,760 infections were identified. On average, that equates to 45,460 positive tests per day.

The weekly figure for Tuesday can therefore come out at 300,000 to 320,000. That would mean a drop of 25 to 30 percent, the strongest decrease in a month.
