The Tour de Ski race starts on Saturday in Toblach, Italy and ends on Sunday, January 7 in Val di Fiemme.
Sweden’s cross-country stars Ebba Andersson and Calle Halfvarsson have fallen ill with the coronavirus disease, which is why their participation in the Tour de Ski competition tour is at stake. A Swedish newspaper tells about it Expressen.
The Tour de Ski starts on Saturday in Toblach, Italy. Halfvarsson had already arrived in Italy, but returned to Sweden to heal himself.
– I am wondering whether or not I will participate in the Tour de Skill. I’m already on my way to recovery. I will decide tomorrow (Wednesday) whether I will travel to the Tour on Thursday, Halfvarsson told Expressen.
Ebba Andersson’s illness is mild and she is resting in camp conditions in Lavaze, says the coach’s father Per-Ola Andersson.
– We take one day at a time. The situation is not optimal, but the plan is that Ebba will participate in the Tour, Per-Ola Andersson said.
Last year Andersson missed the Tour, but two years ago he was second overall.
Swedish national team skiers as well Oskar Svensson and Moa Lundgren have given a positive sample from the corona test and canceled their participation in the Tour de Skille. Emil Danielsson and Lisa Ingesson has been alerted to fixers.
Corona has been a problem for the Swedish national team already earlier this season. William Poromaa, Jonna Sundling, Linn Svahn and Frida Karlsson got corona infected at the end of November after the World Cup weekend in Ruka.
In the 2023–2024 season, the Tour de Ski is one of the highlights of the ski season, as there are no value races in the program.
