Corn, Confagricoltira: supply chain agreement signed

Corn Confagricoltira supply chain agreement signed

(Finance) – Promote the cultivation of Italian maize also to improve the rate of self-sufficiency which is now continuously declining and has practically halved in the last fifteen years; encourage the meeting between supply and demand; enhance the role of intermediate structures; push towards greater production planning also through the stipulation of supply chain contracts: with this aim, to support production and prices, the framework agreement was born which, on the initiative of Confagricoltura, gathered all the links in the supply chain around the same table. In addition to the Confederation, AMI, Assalzoo, Compag, AIRES, Copagri, Cia-Italian Farmers, Alliance of Agri-food Cooperatives, Assosementi and Origin Italia have joined.
The agreement – explains the note – provides two fundamental points in support of a sector worth around 130 billion euros. THEThe first is the recognition of an economic reward for certified grain and sustainable production processes. At the same time, the signatory parties undertake to define the purchase price also by linking it to the trend of prices on the commodity exchanges.

This is the first contract in Italy that expresses the desire of the entire maize supply chain to recognize the right price for quality Italian products. Strategy that goes hand in hand with public support, first of all the Competitiveness Fund for agricultural supply chains, to which the Food Sovereignty Fund was recently added.
