Cora supermarkets are disappearing the store near you will change

The Cora brand has been bought. Since October 1, supermarkets have been disappearing. Here’s what the one near you will become and when it will transform.

The Cora brand, created in 1969, has around sixty supermarkets in France, a large part of which are located in the north and east of the country. For several years, the group has encountered financial difficulties. Since its creation, Cora has been franchised by the Carrefour group, but the link between the brands has since evolved. In July 2023, Carrefour announced the acquisition of Cora in France. The takeover was effective a year later and the replacement of stores began on October 1st.

If nothing had changed for more than a year, Cora supermarkets will now become Carrefours. In stores, the transformation will take place with “a transition period of approximately two weeks during which the hypermarkets will remain open”, specifies the group in a press release.

The sign will first be replaced, then it will be the Carrefour product offering which will invade the shelves and “the signage and work clothes will then finalize this shift”. A 10% price drop is planned for more than 3,000 items in its new stores. Carrefour thus maintains its number 2 place in mass distribution behind E.Leclerc, despite Intermarché’s purchase of numerous Casino stores.
