Sweden, Norway and Finland must have deep defense cooperation in the future, says Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist (S) after meeting his Norwegian and Finnish counterparts in Finland.

How the countries’ defense cooperation should look, and how they are affected by Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO processes was in focus when Hultqvist met Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram and Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen on Thursday.

The cooperation is something that, according to Hultqvist, must be discussed more deeply with the defense alliance NATO.

– But we see it as important that we ourselves also form an opinion, create ideas and have a will in how this should be laid out, says the Minister of Defense to TT.

Security throughout Europe and Scandinavia is challenged by Russia’s war in Ukraine, says Hultqvist. But the Minister of Defense does not announce whether it is appropriate to send additional arms support to Ukraine.

– We are of course looking at the possibilities of contributing with additional support.

TT: What type of support is relevant at the moment?

– We will return to that when we have a message to give.
