A man used violence, in one case wielding a knife, before taking lottery tickets in two convenience store robberies Saturday morning, police said. One took place on Harvey St. about 2:30 am, the other on Grand Avenue East about 8 am

Officers used video surveillance footage to help identify a suspect, police said. A dog team was deployed and officers were assigned to monitor convenience stores across Chatham.

A man was arrested as he approached a Richmond Street convenience store about 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Investigation linked the suspect to thefts of lottery tickets from a St. Clair Street convenience store Thursday and a Queen Street store Friday, police said.

A Sarnia man, 26, is charged with robbery with theft, robbery with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and 5thgree counts each of theft under $5,000, possessing stolen property valued at less than $5,000 and failing to comply with probation, police said. After a bail hearing, he was held pending an Oct. 8 court appearance.

Lottery tickets are regulated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., which has tracing capabilities, police said. Anyone trying to cash in stolen lottery tickets will face arrest.

Man charged after business break-ins

A man faces charges after break-ins did more than $10,000 damage to four commercial properties in Chatham Saturday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Intruders forced their way into four premises on Indian Creek Road and made off with small sums of cash, police said. Officers reviewed CCTV and surveillance footage to identify a suspect.

A man was arrested on King Street East about midnight, police said.

Investigation revealed he was wanted on a warrant after a July 23 fraud probe after stolen credit cards were used at local retailers.

The same suspect was linked to a commercial break-in Sept. 30 on King Street West in Chatham, police added.

A Chatham man, 55, faces six counts of possessing stolen property, five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, four counts of fraud under $5,000, three counts of breaking and entering while wearing a disguise with intent to commit a criminal offense, theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000, police said. After a bail hearing, he was held pending an Oct. 8 court appearance, police said.
