controversy surrounding the bonuses of the mens volleyball selection

The players of the Cameroon men’s volleyball team did not receive all of their bonuses after their participation last September in the African Cup of Nations in Cairo. Tired of waiting, Steve Boyomo and Ivan Kodi, two team executives, expressed their dissatisfaction in the media and social networks.

There is no reason to be afraid to claim what is rightfully ours, the situation has lasted long enough and I have decided to break the silence », Indicates Steve Boyomo on his Facebook page. “ Nine months after participation in the Egypt CAN 2023, we still have not received the bonuses », continues the center of the Cameroonian team who accuses.

In his defense, the communications manager of the Volleyball Federation, Christian Tchami, affirms that part of the bonuses were indeed paid to the players: “The question of payment of bonuses is the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry of Sports, especially during sovereignty competitions. This is not the totality of the premiums, but a remainder, because the Federation saw itself as having the duty to contact the service providers for the pre-financing of part of these premiums and it is the remainder which is a bit of a sticking point today. »

Referring to cash flow tensions at the Ministry of Sports, Tchami adds that many other federations have unpaid premiums. “The senior women’s national handball selection is awaiting payment; the U20 selection at the Cameroonian Football Federation is awaiting payment of bonuses and we can cite, in spades, a dozen federations which are experiencing the same problem. »

A few months before major events, such as the Paris Olympic Games, the government should resolve this bonus problem otherwise it will demotivate the various athletes.
