According to the claim in the American magazine The Atlantic; During his visit to Saudi Arabia in January, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed with the Crown Prince the possibility of normalization with Israel while Israel’s war on Gaza continued.
Prince Salman expressed his desire to ensure calm in Gaza if a normalization agreement is reached.
Blinken asked whether the Saudis would tolerate Israel periodically reentering the region to strike the Gaza Strip.
“I DON’T CARE, BUT MY PEOPLE CARE”
Mohammed bin Salman replied, “They may come back after six months, a year, but not after I sign something like this,” and added:
“Seventy percent of my people are younger than me. Many of them did not know much about the Palestinian issue. Their first encounter with the issue was as a result of this conflict. This is a very big problem. Do I personally care about the Palestinian issue? I don’t care, but my people do. So I need to make sure this deal makes sense.”
A Saudi official said the meeting was reported “incorrectly”.
HE SAID, “WE WILL NOT NORMALIZE OUR RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL UNTIL THE STATE OF PALESTINE IS ESTABLISHED.”
Mohammed bin Salman stated that Saudi Arabia would not normalize relations with Israel until a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital was established, and said, “The Kingdom will not stop its diligent efforts to establish a Palestinian state in East Jerusalem.”
