In the 2010s, Amy Adams was a fixture in cinema. However, especially in Germany, we haven’t seen her on the screen for a long time. However, that’s not because she hasn’t made any new films. Rather, they went directly to our streaming, including their latest prank.
The eagerly awaited film adaptation of the novel Nightbitch was released in the USA a month ago – in cinemas. In this country, the film is released directly on Disney+ as a subscription. On January 24, 2025 the time has come. Then you can enjoy the new film with Amy Adams in your own four walls from the couch.
Amy Adams turns into a dog: Nightbitch sounds like a crazy horror comedy
Nightbitch is based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Yoder, which was published in 2021. The story revolves around a woman who works successfully as an artist and curator. However, one day she decides to… to pause careerso that she can take better care of her son and the household.

Her husband is constantly traveling for work reasons and has no time for his family. Therefore, the protagonist of the story feels compelled to change something. And the change suddenly comes in a big way: the character played by Amy Adams gradually turns into a dog.
A bit of horror, a bit of fantasy and a good dose of humor – no wonder that the wild mix of genres with this premise was controversial. The film has an average score of 56 out of 100 on Metacritic. Rotten Tomatoes has 59 percent positive reviews – including some extreme ratings.
The film’s tone and creative decisions made during the adaptation are particularly controversial. Nightbitch was directed and written by Marielle Heller, who most recently brought the very touching The Wonderful Mr. Rogers to the cinema. Now she delivers it female response to Kafka’s The Metamorphosis.
Nightbitch is the fifth (!) Amy Adams film in recent years to come directly to streaming
For Amy Adams, Nightbitch marks the next streaming release in Germany. She was most recently seen in Hillbilly Elegy, The Woman in the Window, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Bewitched Again. Only Dear Evan Hansen had a regular theatrical release – and it wasn’t particularly big due to the pandemic.
Now Nightbitch is joining Disney+. Maybe the film will also play a role at the upcoming Oscars. At least Adams was able to do one during the Golden Globes Nomination for Best Actress in the musical/comedy category. The film seems to be convincing in terms of acting.
