A new type of product from the company Augmental, called “MouthPad”, should make using phones more accessible for people with limited mobility. “MouthPad” is a kind of retainer that allows the user to control a computer or telephone with the tongue, without it noticeably affecting the ability to speak.
The technology is nothing new but according to Engadget is Augmental’s “MouthPad”, “one of the most elegant and sophisticated solutions to date”.

“MouthPad” also enables the user to control their phone or computer using head movements. It confirms Oscar Roscellodesign manager at Augmental, for TechCrunch:
– It uses a gyroscope embedded in our smart retainer, which you wear in your mouth. You can then move your head to control the cursor on your phone, laptop, or other Bluetooth-enabled device.

At the moment, “MouthPad” is only available to beta testers, and costs around ten thousand kroner. More details on price and when the product becomes more available will come soon.
