The Ivorian authorities want to see their share of renewable energies increase to 42% in the energy mix by 2030. To achieve this objective, there is the major biomass power plant project. The construction contract has just been signed between Biovea Energy, project leader, and the Chinese company CEEC. This plant will be the first of its kind in West Africa and will produce renewable energy from biomass for the Ivorian electricity grid.
It’s a contract turnkey which has been signed, announced on August 12 on its LinkedIn page Biovea Énergie, the Ivorian law company partly owned by EDF. The plant will be supplied mainly by agricultural waste from palm trees (estimated 450,000 tons). A third will come from the oil palm plantations of the large company PalmCI. The remaining two-thirds should be collected from 12,000 growers.
The plant, which will be located in the Aboisso region, about 100 km from Abidjan, should produce 46 megawatts. Connected to the national network, the ambition is to supply 1.7 million Ivorians with greener energy. Estimated cost of the operation: 232 million euros, mostly financed by a loan from Proparco, a subsidiary of the French Development Agency.
In its communication, Biovea Énergie specifies that the signing of this contract allows ” to consider the effective start of construction work before the end of 2022 “. Objective: commissioning in 2024.
