The security situation in Sweden remains serious, notes Säpo.
– The image that has been painted over time of Sweden as hostile to Islam has been threatening and contributed to Sweden going from being a legitimate target to being seen as a more prioritized target last year, says Fredrik Hallström, operational director at the Security Police.
At the same time, it is noted that Sweden is not really in the same focus for the propaganda of violent extremists as it was last year. On the other hand, the conflicts in the Middle East can lead to continued increased polarization and the risk of violence.
Several major events
During the spring and summer, several major events will take place in Sweden, including the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, where Säpo will continuously share a situational picture of any threats.
– We are working to ensure that Eurovision can be carried out under safe and secure conditions. A large and important part of this work is our collaboration with several other partners, both international and national, of which the Police Agency is an important one, says Fredrik Hallström.
Historically, the measures that Säpo has taken to prevent and prevent acts of violence have been effective, Hallström continues.
