Continued pest problem at restaurant in central Stockholm

During the fall of 2023, Stockholm’s environmental and health protection board carried out a food inspection at an Indian restaurant in central Stockholm.

During the inspections, a lack of cleaning and cockroaches were found in the restaurant. Several cockroaches were found both alive and dead. The restaurant closes temporarily, due to the pest problem.

The pest problem remains

Now the city’s food inspectors have carried out follow-up checks, and in the past few days it was again established that the restaurant has pests. The committee found dead cockroaches in indicator traps in the dry storage.

In the kitchen there was only one indicator trap that was missing a date, it says in the inspection report that News24 took part in.

The restaurant could not show when a pest control company had last been there

The restaurant was unable to provide information about the last visit from a pest control company to the food inspection. They were also unable to show the city’s food inspector documentation from a requested abatement.

In addition to the pest problem, the restaurant allegedly stored utensils and food in a way that was not considered okay.

Among other things, the restaurant is said to have stored pots of rice and a can of oil on the floor and then moved these up onto the workbench.

The board believes that the floor is not a clean surface to have things on which are then placed on the workbench.

The restaurant must take action

After the last inspection at the end of February 2024, the committee decided that the restaurant must store food and equipment on suitable and clean surfaces.

It was also decided that the restaurant should be able to report measures taken regarding pests. This is done by presenting documentation from pest control companies on request that shows that pest control and extermination takes place.

The Environment and Health Protection Board assessed that “the risks for consumers are so great that the decision must apply immediately” and they will also ensure that it is complied with.
